The nature of envy
Chapter-8
On the twelfth day of the second fortnight of the month of Shravan of
Samvat 1877, Swami Shri Sahajanandji Maharaj was seated on a cot in the
verendah near the room facing north in the Durbar of Shri Jiva Khachar at
Sarangpur. Munis and the Bhaktas from the various places were assembled
before him.
Then Chaitanyanand Swami asked, "Oh Maharaj ! tell us about the'nature of
the instinct of envy." Then Shriji Maharaj said, "The instinct of envy is born
of ego, along the instinct of Krodh, Matsar, Asuya etc. One filled with the
instinct of envy experiences a feeling of gross unpleasantness when some one
older and higher then him in status is honoured. And one filled with the sense of
sheer envy always feels absolutely belittled when anybody other than he himself is
honoured or respected.
