Causes behind the weakness in devotional practice - The evils of bad association.

Chapter-55

On the eleventh day of the second fortnight of the mouth of Magh of 1876, Shriji Maharaj was seated in the verandah near his chamber facing east in the Durbar of Shri Dada Khachar at Gadhada. He was cled in white. Saints and the devotees from the different places were assembled before him.

Then Shriji Maharaj said, "Now start question answers." on that Muktanand Swami asked. "Why the Jiva cannot offer an unbroken worship to God and observe Dharm ?"

Replying to this, Shriji Maharaj said, "The disturbances in offering of unbroken worship to God and observing Dharm comes, when the unholy influence of time, action and place prevails. The company of unholy persons and actions contrary to moral codes also lead to such deflection in the observance of Dharm and offeririg of unbroken worship. Such a vitiating influence dampens the zeal of even a most staunch devotee. However, even under such vitiated influence of unholy time and place, if a devotee can remain imperturbed, it is due to his Poorva Samskars which fill him with spiritual vigour. And again if the influence of time and place is favourable and even then a devotee cannot offer unbroken worship to God, it is because his Buddhi either is polluted or cursed or he has committed unredeemable sins in this birth or in previous births or has gravely hurt a great saint or a devotee. One, therefore, who seeks the company of a Brahmanised saint and serves him with purest devotion is redeemed of all his sins. But if he remains in the company of sinners, he would be totally condemned from the path of salvation. One who indulges in the company of sinners and yet aspires to gain control over his mind make's a mokery of his own self or he is living like a fool.

Thus Ends Vachanamrit : Gadhada First - 55.
